The Oppo Find X5 Pro competes with flagship devices from Samsung, Huawei and Apple in the Ultra Premium segment, and this is reflected in the hardware specifications. With a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, a 6.70-inch AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution, and triple rear camera with ultra-wide and tele, the new Oppo features top-end components in many areas.

Things look a little simpler for the front camera which uses a fixed focus lens to channel light onto a 32MP sensor. In video mode, you can record Selfie footage at 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second. Read on to find out how the X5 Pro front camera performed in the DXOMARK Selfie test.

  • Low noise in bright light and indoor video

Cons

  • Exposure instabilities

  • Limited depth of field
  • Image artifacts, including color quantization and unnatural skin rendering
  • Ineffective video stabilization
  • Exposure and white balance instabilities in video
  • Noise in low-light video
  • Hue shift effect close to clipped skin tone areas

With a DXOMARK Selfie score of 89, the Oppo Find X5 Pro is behind the best front cameras in the Ultra Premium segment and delivers a performance that is quite close to previous Oppo devices in lower price segments, such as the Reno6 Pro.

This image demonstrates a wide dynamic range and good exposure but also shows some inconsistent color rendering and halo artifacts.

When shooting still selfies, the camera usually gets the target exposure right and captures a wide dynamic range. However, our testers observed some exposure instabilities. We also saw frequent white balance casts on all types of skin tones. Detail is high at close range in most conditions, but a limited dynamic range means subjects behind the plane of focus are rendered soft. Noise is well under control in most situations, but some image artifacts, such as color quantization or unnatural skin rendering, can be visible.

Noise comparison: Noise is well controlled on the X5 Pro in bright light and indoor conditions.

In video mode, the Oppo Find X5 Pro generally records well-exposed footage. Color is acceptable, and detail is fairly decent, given the Oppo records at 1080p resolution versus 4K on most direct competitors. On the downside, exposure and white balance instabilities are often noticeable in all light conditions. In addition, very poor video stabilization means that videos recorded while in motion are almost unusable.
